Development of AI technology for non-invasive analysis of bovine sperm DNA damage
~Research presentation to be held at the 133rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Animal Science~

ARCS Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Masayasu Tanase) has developed an AI technology that uses deep learning to non-invasively and in real time analyze DNA damage in bovine sperm. This product was developed for research purposes to explore the effects of DNA damage in sperm.

The results of this research have been recognized and will be presented orally at the 133rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Animal Science, to be held from September 12th to 15th, 2025.

Information on upcoming academic conference presentations

  • Name of the conference: The 133rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Animal Science

  • Date: Saturday, September 13, 2025

  • Venue: Gifu University, Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences and Faculty of Engineering (Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture)

  • Presentation format: Oral presentation

  • Presentation number: VI-13-05

  • Presentation time: 13:25-13:35

  • Field: Reproduction and reproductive engineering

Research background and objectives

Improving the reproductive efficiency of livestock is a major issue in the livestock industry. DNA damage in sperm, in particular, is believed to be a factor that affects fertility and embryo development, and previous evaluation methods were invasive and time-consuming.

Research Overview

We have developed an AI system that utilizes deep learning technology to non-invasively analyze the presence or absence of DNA damage from bovine sperm image data in real time, enabling faster and more accurate evaluation than conventional methods.

Significance of the research results

This technology is expected to contribute to improving breeding efficiency and livestock productivity, and is attracting attention from both inside and outside the industry as an example of applying AI technology to the livestock industry.

Future outlook

Going forward, we will continue to apply this system to other livestock species and improve it for practical use in the field. We also aim to further develop the field of reproductive engineering using AI technology.
